Canceling an interview RSS feed

I'm so bummed. It's been tough to find the right fit since my last position. I was looking forward to two interviews that seemed to be a good fit. I wake up with strep throat, confirm it, and then have to cancel. I know it leaves such a bad impression and throws reliability into question for me to have to ask. I know I can't help it and I did the right thing by canceling but it sucks.

Chalk it up to Murphy's Law.

Plain & Simple.

So sorry you are not feeling well, but if you're sick then you are sick.
It is truly beyond your control.

Life happens + sometimes it just doesn't happen in our favor.

Your health is your #1 priority here however.

Minimize stress and get plenty of rest.

Get well soon.

As much as it sucks as an MB I wouldn't want to hire a nanny that gets strep.

Do you just go in when sick?

I know it sucks but why don't you get paperwork from the doctor and send it per email to the family, or bring it to your second interview, just to show that you weren't lying. I'd do that, shows a lot of thought and that you felt bad

I probably would have called them and said, Look I have strep, I hate to cancel but dont want to get your kids sick. Do you want to meet somewhere else like a Starbucks or park, or reschedule for a few days.
If they want to go ahead and meet you then you know theyre prob not a good fit and will expect you to come to work sick. If they want to reschedule you know they are more considerate. Any they will know you were trying to make an effort and are serious about meeting them.

I had to cancel an interview once because of a stomach bug. It was when I was first getting into nannying and interviews were harder to come by because i didn't have many references and none as a full time nanny. They rescheduled and hired me the same day. They still turned out to be crazy in a lot of ways but it all worked out. One way or another, it will all work out for you as well. Get better!
