So, I told MB that I am quiting at the end of August.
Is it okay if he cut it early if he found someone to replace me earlier? If so, am i elligible to demand for pay for the remaining days we agreed? Thanks for all the input in advance! |

I'm sorry, OP. Next time no notice unless you have a well-written contract to protect you from this abuse.
Most of us nanny have learned this lesson the hard way. |
| What was the agreed upon notice period? Although it would be nice for your employer to keep you through the end of August, they can let you go with your originally agreed upon amount of notice as well. |
This is exactly how your typical nanny employers express their gratitude for giving your 'all' to their child. Nannies, beware. So unfortunate, but very typical. Happy to say, however, their are a few parent gems out there who will treat you like gold for taking excellent care of their child. They'll shower you with never-ending gratitude, plus any perks they can afford. They understand the enormous value of your work. |
| It is a 6weeks notice I gave them, in our contract atleast 4weeks. |
| Op here, I just feel like I have to do or say something. I have been a good employee to them, and respect and did my duties well. |
Do they generally have good or not so good character? Are they grateful for your work? |

MB here.
I think that if you have a 4 week notice period in your contract you can (and should) ask to be paid for the full four week period. Unfortunately I'm not sure you can hope to get the additional two weeks paid. It's definitely a hazard of being as gracious as you were in giving such a long notice period. I'm sorry it worked out that way OP. |
Sorry, I thought the OP was asking for the actual answer to her question. |
I have been working with them a little more than a year, they were over all an okay employer, they have their own moments of grumpiness ? which I just shrugged it off and move on! |
May I add too, that I have been so considerate with them, if they do not need me to work for some day Ill offer to come on the other days I am not suppose to work just so they could get what they would pay for. Offered to do some things for them if i get extra time off. |
|
But you're leaving OP. So you obviously weren't that happy and maybe it wasn't a great fit overall.
See if you can get the month and then move on. |
Its not exactly that I am not happy, I just have some schedule issues coming when school starts with my own kid, i do not have any choice I have to stop working! |
| Yeah this is why as a nanny you never I've more than 2wks notice. Parents will ALWAYS f*** you over. I've been with my family for 11 years, so I'll give them a months notice, but that's because I know they aren't jerks and would never do this to me!! So sorry you're going through this. |
Sad, but true! |
