what to call this position -- and where to find her

We have 2 kids (4, 6 mo) and would like to hire someone a few evenings per week to:

pick up our son from preschool and walk him home
help with prep work for dinner
do laundry (while we eat dinner)
clean the kitchen (while we put kids to bed after dinner)

And ideally this person would sometimes be able to babysit in the evenings if we have to work late (in which case they would just take care of the kids), though that wouldn't be a regular thing.

So this person is not quite nanny, not quite housekeeper, and not quite babysitter or mother's helper. Is there a title for this that i'm not aware of?

Also, any ideas on how best to find this person? I'm guessing it will be someone who has a nanny job by day and wants to make some extra money in the evenings.

It sounds really awkward to have someone in your home doing your laundry while you are eating dinner and putting your kids to bed.

Can she do laundry and make dinner/do the dishes used for cooking before getting your son at preschool? Then you would literally just have your own plates and glasses to clean up, and she could still do the housekeeping even if you need her to babysit on an evening.

OP here - laundry is on a different floor of the house, so it shouldn't be awkward. And yes, we are planning to pay a very good wage (and guarantee it each week even if we are out of town or don't need the hours).

OP ignore the snarky comments. Sounds like you are looking for a family assistant. Put togther a position decription with your expectations and benefits. If you have space a live-in wanting to go to classes may like your offer. Your position might be a nice start if someone might want to look into house management down the road.

FYI the media does not always have it right. Here in the USA there is only opinions on titles and pay, nothing is set. This OP was just looking for some help and some people hove nothing to do but give snarky answers. Again OP ignore them.

I agree that the term "Family Assistant" sounds perfect!

You can try posting a Help Wanted ad on Care.com, Craigslist, your neighborhood listserve or hang up fliers at colleges + coffee shops.

The person is confusing family assistant ( they do not make 120k ) with more of the CEO's ( Estate Manager, Household Manager, Chef and some Butlers ) they can make 120K and sometimes more. A family assistant is in the areas of housekeepers, nannies and entry household managers.
