Where is the best place to find a full time nanny in the Bethesda/Chevy chase area?
We are moving in fall and will need a nanny. Would really appreciate recommendations. |
|
Here.
There are a lot of excellent nannies who post/read ads. Yes, you will have to screen and vet a bit, but it is less expensive than the agencies around the DC area. |
|
Not here.
These nannies be crazy. If you choose one from here expect to pay $25 an hour, reimburse for gas, give 4+ weeks of vacation a year, have nanny call in "sick" religiously, be nickle and dimed to death, and god forbid you expect her to do anything beyond facebooking while baby naps or you better be prepared to pay through the nose. |
| Please ignore the disgruntled 8:51 crazy poster, and consider doing a search on this forum. |

| If you are looking to save yourself the huge agency bill, try online services. Close to 100% of nannies registered with agencies use online as well to find a position even nannies considered high quality. Agencies can break your bank and if it does not work you have to hope they have that free replacement. |
| ask around the neighborhood for families outgrowing a fulltime nanny. |
Stay away from Nanny Poppinz, many lawsuits with them |
Really? I hadn't heard. Wasn't one of their franchises in VA owned by an attorney? |
|
I wouldn't leave my child in the care of any nanny who visits this forum.
Heck....I wouldn't even leave them in charge w/my little pet goldfish Chilly Willy. |

I'd ask your realtor to get you the neighborhood listserv info for where you're moving, and even for a couple of nearby neighborhoods.
Your best leads, by far, will come from other parents. And with kids heading off to school now is a great time to look. Families who have had the same nanny for years are often eager to help them find their next job so August is a great time to be looking for a nanny. Welcome to the area! |
What a closed mind you have.... I'm a nanny and 4 of the best jobs I ever had we're from DCUM. |
|
OP I'd avoid agencies. We looked into those and what you get for the money isn't impressive.
We also didn't have much luck with Care.com although I know other families who swear by it. We found an excellent nanny here on DCUM. Many of the nannies or nanny families who post on here looking for jobs are just great and are not the same as the people who come on here to complain. Our current nanny came to us through our neighborhood listServ so I recommend seeing if there's one you can join ASAP. |
Because only absentee parent trolls should visit the Nanny Forum? |
