Fair rate for mother's helper?

Thinking of hiring a mother's helper to come in 3 mornings a week to help our nanny. She would be responsible for picking up our 2 year old from preschool, laundry, cleaning bottles and general tidiness, preparing meals for the children, and doing meal prep (chopping veg, etc.) so that it is easier for us when we get home.
It would take a few hours each week. Any idea of a fair rate? |

| Depends on what kind of person you have in mind, plus so many other factors. Best to simply start looking, and then asking them their rates. |

| Picking up your toddler she can do, cleaning bottles and meal prep for kids should be part of her job, that's standard. Op either your nanny can't mange time or is just lazy. Plenty of nannies do what your asking there's no need to spend extra looking for a mothers helper. I'd focus my time looking for a new nanny. |

I'm in the "not going to hire someone to help my nanny" camp.
Our nanny handles all of the things you need (and more) with skill and grace. This isn't an unusual job you have OP. Hire someone who can do the job, not two people. |

The only things on that list that I would not give to the nanny to do are family laundry and family dinner prep. I'd also not expect her to clean up anything that wasn't child related.
I hired a college kid to come and help with laundry and meal prep. $15/hr for about 12 hours/wk. |

| When I had twins, parents had the FT housekeeper be my assistant whenever it was helpful for me. They didn't want either child to be crying if the other needed my full attention. Mom was a pediatrician. |

You don't hire a nanny for your nanny! That's ridiculous. Hire a better nanny who can handle two children instead.
This thread and the other one are making me appreciate my nanny even more than I already do. Guess who's getting a bonus this week! |

Yes, but a nanny who can handle two children is not "amazing." She's a childcare worker! That's what they do, supposedly. |

It's funny, people on here complain how a nanny should mostly care for the kids and not do too much "house"-related duties.
So here is a reasonable + considerate MB who will hire someone else to do the other stuff and look at all the criticism she faces from responders. You can never win on this forum. I wouldn't even try. ;( |
