| My NF is awesome and made me an offer recently. They need childcare M-F 7am-7:30 pm (parents have unpredictable hours so they need to cover all the hours they might work), and would ideally like some help on Satudays either for an extra set of hands on big outings, splitting kids up for individual time and date nights. They have grandparents who want to cover Friday afternoons/evenings and want to take the kids on an outing once a week, but are flexible on which day. They told me to choose whatever schedule I want and they will hire someone else for the rest of the time. What would you choose? |
|
I wouldn't want to share the job with another nanny. If
you are capable, I would do all the hours, minus what the grandparents do. Besides, that's a lot of overtime, I would imagine the take home pay is quite a bit. |
Not when so many families are only offering $12/hr |
| It is a lot of overtime (base rate is $19), and I do want to take on most of it, but we all agree that we want another person in the mix because they want someone who can be reliable backup care who knows the kids, etc. So there will definitely be another nanny. |
|
My totally idea schedule would be three long days and two short ones (leave early Friday, start late Monday), maybe alternating weekend if I wanted the overtime.
Sounds like grandparents could make the Friday early day work, but Monday might be harder, unless the other nanny did M-Th 7-11, and I did M-Th 11-7:30 + Fri 7-12 and every other Saturday. That would be ideal; I don't know if it would be realistic! |
Good luck finding a nanny to work 7-11am for 4 days a week! Get up early, fight traffic, make almost nothing, and ruin whole day so can't work another job. Good plan. |
| I think I'd want 4 long days and a half day on the 5th (or something like that.) Leave enough consolidated time available for the second person so that it's possible to find someone good. Ask if you can be involved in meeting final candidates for the other slot so the two of you could be a coordinated team. |
| We have someone in mind to be the alternate but regardless I would have veto power over the backup. Actually I will be doing the initial phone interview and narrowing down to a few candidates, so anyone I don't like won't even make it to the in-person interview. |
I'm the PP who wrote this ideal schedule. I'm actually a MB, and I was just playing along. She did say "ideal," not realistic. |
| I actually know a number of nannies who would be interested in 7-11. It's early enough to avoid rush hour and would allow them to work and afterschool gig, or be home afterschool for their own kids. |
7 is not early enough to avoid rush hour in DC hun. |
|
My ideal schedule is similar to what I do now,
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 7am-7:30pm. Tuesday and Thursday off! Working every day would just me go crazy. I like having time off! (I currently work TuWF 8am-6pm and love it!) |
I work in DC, "hun" and, while there are certainly cars are on the road when I arrive at work at 7, there's almost never enough traffic that one can't travel at or near the speed limit. But thanks for the needless condescension. |
| My ideal schedule is tue Wednesday Thursday for 12 hrs. Maybe Friday. Sat Sunday Monday off. |
