MB fired me but still wants me to work? RSS feed

Anonymous
I started a position a week ago. I ended up with an unexpected medical procedure that took a week to heal so I had to miss my first week of work. She told me they had to let me go due to reliability. Then she asks if I can watch the baby this week. It was an immediate fire, and I technically did not start ( besides a shadow day), so I'm confused by this. I've been working with them today and she's talking about in depth personal things, which I don't understand since they have already fired me. I'm very confused and don't know if they are rehiring me or I'm still fired? This is just odd.

Why are you working for her if she fired you?

I need the income. I don't harbor any hard feelings. I've never been fired ( let go for things like moving, becoming a SAHM, etc.) but I understand where she is coming from. I would did my hold up my end of the bargain, and I deserved to be fired. They were in the right. I still like them as people.

Plus, I put them into this situation of having scrambling to scramble for care. I don't mind helping them until they find a replacement. It's called talking responsibility for your actions. It's the least I can do for putting MB in such a major bind at work.

Wow! Not to be rude but can you not read? I stated my question and said I was confused. You just reiterated my entire question, Captain obvious! Go get a life and stop calling troll because you have nothing better to do.

They are clearly using you as temp care until they find a new nanny, not rehiring you. However, if you make a good enough impression, I think there's some possibility that they give you another chance.

If you want the job, tell them that you are very sorry for putting them in a bind and that you completely understand their decision. Then tell them that you would love to move forward with the position and hope they consider you as a candidate. Hand them your references which they likely already have and have contacted, and tell them that you have always been extremely reliable and that you hope they verify that with your former employers.

You need to ask them.

For heaven's sake. If you're not making this up then you need to know whether you have a job or not and the way to do that is to ask your possible employer.

I would just keep showing up to work and giving your all. If they want you next week to work to maybe ask next Wednesday or Thursday what there plan is. Give them time to see you shine before you ask.

OP here. I actually took a job looking after my cousins baby. She was going to hire a nanny but I'm available an will be watching her. I guess I'm just worried me saying yes to helping her she now thinks that I am recommitted ( incase they want to keep me).

I have many years as a nanny but I've never been through this. The one time I quit a job, I didn't want to stay another day with them. I've known a few families who fired their nanny and they did it immediately. They even had the nanny send the key in the mail because they didn't want to see her again. So it's just odd. They also have not posted for a new nanny or anything.
