Hi all, what's the average pay increase for a new baby in DC?
We have a toddler now and pay our nanny $16/hr so what would you say is fair for a new baby? Thanks. |
| $18 |

| You really need to ask the nanny if she even wants the extra workload and responsibilities. Perhaps she prefers only one child. Who knows? |
| It depends a lot. 1-2 hours is typical, but you are also a bit under market. |
| extra $1 an hour |
| Usually 7-10% for newborn |
Why ask? If she doesn't want a job she is free to quit. |
| Depends if you think it will be an increase in work or not. I usually find siblings can play well together and it relieves some work load from my nanny so I typically don't recommend an increase in salary to my friends when they had babies |
You're one of the most ridiculous posters I've ever seen on this forum if you believe a newborn will relieve some of the nanny's work load. Hard to believe how any normal parent can be that out of touch with reality. |

Thank you all.
I appreciate all the feed back. |
I concur 100%. A newborn infant is a TON of work & will be for a very long long time. To not demand extra compensation would be selling yourself out. Big time. Mark my words. |
This is great advise. Just tell her that her job is about to become easier and that you are reducing her pay to $15/hr. |
The new child won't play "with" the older sibling for about 1.5 years. In between, the nanny is juggling two children with vastly different naps, diets and developmental needs. |
