Desperately want to hire a nanny from overseas-how? RSS feed

Desperately want to hire a nanny from another country-it's the only real shot I have of giving my son exposure to our mother tongue. I don't speak it well enough to teach it to him. Without it, I fear he will grow up like I did-feeling left out of family events, embarrassed, and disenfranchised. DS is only one. If it is a multi-year process I am willing to do it. Anyone BTDT?

I don't live in DC. Do au pairs want to live in Harrisburg Pa? Serious question. Or do they just want big cities?

I think you should try sulekha.com where you can find south east Asian nannies.

Good luck.

I had an Au Pair in Sugarcreek, Ohio. The middle of Amish country. I will admit that she was the only one. She had to drive up to Akron to meet friends.

But au pairs generally move here to learn English.

If you want your child to grow up learning Nepali and the culture--you should really move to Nepal.

Unless you are here under a special visa, you cannot bring a foreign national into this country to work for you. If you care a US you citizen, even a naturalized citizen, you cannot bring a maid in from your country.

I'm in a mid-sized city in Georgia, and our friends have an au pair from Germany. She had lots of friends, and even extended for a second term.

That's really super, but how does it relate to this thread?

she is answering the other question- whether au pairs will come to non-major cities.
