Baby nurse/nanny agency

I am college educated with 12 plus years if experience with infants so why is it so hard to get an "in" with these agencies?

I've never worked with one so I am not even sure what that includes? Do they take money off your fee or just collect the "finders fee"?

I interview well and have wonderful references but I can't seem to even get any info on how to interview for the agencies or job listings.

Anyone btdt? Do you just call or email asking if they taking on new hires?
