We really like our nanny who has been with us over a year. We have a good relationship. I don't typically focus on any of the "little stuff" with her. She takes great care of our son, and that is the most important thing.

However, lately, this habit of hers is driving me a tiny bit crazy but I'm not sure if it's worth bringing it up.

Feeding my son is a messy project, and when she either goes back to the fridge, freezer, or microwave while feeding, she doesn't wash her hands before opening them. The result is that there is always food caked on the fridge, freezer and microwave handles on a daily basis. I've just been cleaning it every night after she leaves, but for some reason -- maybe just general stress unrelated to her -- I'm about to crack and say something. Not in a mean way of course, just ask her to make that part of her post-meal cleanup.

But, it feels petty. Agree? Disagree? Curious what others think.

If it bothers you, say something. I'd much rather know and fix it than have you steam over for however long I work for you. Just say it in a casual way, acknowledging that feeding him is a messy deal, and say we're all trying to do better tidying up after meals, so could you be sure to wipe surfaces and door handles after each meal?

You wouldn't believe how many kitchens I see like that. And yes, I clean it before I do anything else. It's just how I am.

Yes, I would say something.
It's gross.

Agree with this one and chances are your nanny may not be aware she is doing this, think about it, hungry baby = quick trips to get more food

You might ask your nanny if when baby is done eating if she could just wipe the sticky fridge

That's really gross. I'm a nanny to twin toddlers and I ALWAYS wipe my hands with a damp washcloth or rinse them in the sink if they are messy at all before touching anything else. Otherwise the mess gets EVERYWHERE. During meal times I am wiping my hands on average every 10 seconds, but that is much better than dealing with crusty nasty food mess later. Honestly that would make me question her common sense, especially when it comes to cleanliness.

Take this advice with caution, you sound like you have an awesome nanny and a good relationship is much more important then OCD nanny style. All nannies have there positives and challenges, perhaps your nanny is having so much fun engaging with your child and yea just is not thinking. No need to through insults at your nanny but perhaps just a friendly conversation about some better hand washing.

Why are there so many nannies on here that feel the need to tear other nannies down in order to prove their superiority? OP asked whether she should say something to her nanny about the issue. You managed to not answer the question and be an ass at the same time. Wiping your hands every 10 seconds makes me question your mental health and your ability to handle twin toddlers.

And the OP here is happy with HER nanny, how about giving it a rest, you sound like a great nanny but please don't put down others. There is room in the nanny world for people with different talents and are great nannies as well.

OP here. I appreciate the advice, especially the fact that this stage won't last forever. Sometimes it's easy to forget that in the moment. Thanks everyone!

I would say something because it would bother me. I would just straight out say, "Can you please wipe off the handles of the fridge/mw/whatever after you clean up Johnny? They're getting really sticky, and it's hard to clean up later."
