You show up to an interview, excited to meet the woman you've been corresponding with, and her infant and husband, only to realize that her husband is an ex boyfriend of yours from the past! ...thanks for the coffee, I'll see myself out...

Oh go away

OP I can't even imagine how awkward that must have been. At least you got a hilarious story out of it!

You didn't ask for the parents' names before the interview?!

OP here. I knew the mothers full name, but I had not been given the fathers name (she mentioned him only once, saying "I can't wait for you to meet (baby) and my husband"); the last name is a very common one. I had absolutely no idea; I hadn't even thought about this man once since we stopped dating three years ago. I will admit the word boyfriend is a bit of a stretch, we only went on a few dates over the course of about two months. Still, it was pretty awkward -- I can't imagine working for a man I used to date, much less in the capacity of helping to raise his child!

And yes, thank you pp, it is a funny story I have now!

Wow. Sorry, but this would never happen to me. I have the full names of both parents, whether they have custody or not, and any step-parents, well before I agree to meet in person. I look them up online before I meet them, and I can't do that without their names.

Or paranoid, maybe.

Laugh it off, OP.

+1. It's a small world. Reminds me of when I met my new OB/GYN and he said he used to date my sister. Awkward.

See, I can see that happening, easily! I can't imagine going to an interview without knowing the names of both adults who will be there!
