Rate for newborn care nanny in Alexandria RSS feed

Hi
I'd like to know the 'normal' rate for a nanny taking care of a 3 month old baby. Work would only be newborn care and no additional house work. 40 hours/wk
I have interviewed a few nannies and the range is so wide - I'd like to get a better idea of the average price.
Thanks!

For the "average" you need to do the math. Do you want an average nanny for your baby?

$15-20/hour, depending on whether it's full or part-time, whether you want someone legal, how important English fluency is to you, whether you want to do taxes, how much experience you require, etc. For any special needs, it goes up steeply.

How stable do you want her to be?

What is the range you have found?

Yes, the range is so wide because the level of competence is so wide. Some you have to train. Some can teach you anything you want to know about early childhood development.

Tip: if you have to "train" your nanny regarding how to take care of your baby, it's not worth the savings.

OP- Thanks for the replies. Some as low as $18/hr and as high as $27/hr
I can afford $20/hr but will do a nanny share to offset the cost for a more experienced nanny

If you tried to care for two little babies at once on your own, you wouldn't make such a naive decision.

OP, $18/hr for a FT position with one baby is quite competitive. For $20/hr you should have tons of applicants and the ability to be quite picky.

Nanny shares can work wonderfully with two infants also.

How many baby shares have you worked? Zero, huh?

She doesn't need to have worked any baby shares to know that the market has plenty of nannies willing to do shares and experienced in this arena.

Hopefully she understands the difference between an accomplished professional nanny and individuals who will take any job they can get.
