Going rate for once a week sitter for one baby? RSS feed

How much would you pay a college student for one afternoon a week, watching a six month old baby? Thanks!

15-18 per hour.

It depends on the number of hours and what time. For earlier in the afternoon, between noon and 5, you'll probably need to pay more, especially if you want the same person next semester. If it's after 5, you won't be competing for the after school nannies or sitters, so it would be much easier to find someone. For one day every week, 4+ hours, I would say $16-20 per hour.

Depends on how good I thought she was with my baby. What did her refs say about her?

I'm an experienced nanny with a college degree who loves to fill her free time by babysitting for little ones. I charge $15 an hour but am flexible on this for the right family. If you are looking for someone like me, then I would not advertise for lower than $15, but no higher than $18 either. You don't want people who look at the money aspect first. It has to be a good fit, even if it's just for a few hours a week. I hope this helps!

How do you live on a "flexible" $15/hr in this area? Does someone else support you?

She said she fills her free time, not that that is her primary job.

She said she's a college-degreed nanny, and that's what she charges. And she's not sharing how she manages to live on that. Interesting.

Why is it interesting? Better yet, why do you care so much? She was sharing her babysitting rate in response to OP's question. Period.

Jesus some of you women really need to get a life.

OP here. Thanks for the responses! Right, like the college student PP, this would not be this person's primary job. I babysat to help boost my income a bit my first couple years of grad school - the rest of my income was a university stipend and loans. i think in that situation, $15/hour is plenty to help make ends meet... especially if you can squeeze in some school work during naps! I was paid $15/hour for three kids, and this was only two years ago, so it sounds like the going rate has perhaps increased.

I live in MoCo and I would pay $13-15 (max!) for once a week babysitting for one baby.

I have adults I use as occasional sitters who charge $13-15/hr so I wouldn't pay more than that.

You are weird. You seem to have issues with reading comprehension (she is a nanny who babysits in her spare time.) And you also have a bizarre desire to know how she makes a living - WHO CARES? No one is "making a living" as a babysitter.

She says she's a nanny, but maybe she isn't. Ok.

Here she explains what she meant to say.

Oh gosh. Please stop. There are two different people - OP, who is asking about a college student babysitting, and the nanny who responded and said she also babysits in her spare time.

You clearly have both reading comprehension issues as well as way too much free time. Chill out.
