What benefits should we offer our nanny who is approaching her third anniversary? We are thinking of increasing her hours instead giving a healthcare contribution.

if my NF did this I would HATE it. I don't want to work more. you should ask her if she wants that

No offense OP, but adding more hours to your nanny's schedule is not equal to assistance with medical insurance. In fact it isn't even considered an actual "benefit," in the true sense of the word!

We pay healthcare premium of $300 a month. She will be with us three years. It is not taxed if paid directly to insurance company. It is tight but we love her.

This is awful! "Happy anniversary! We were going to give you a benefit flat out, but now we think we'll just allow you to work more for us!"

How is that nice?

Ok, I'll be the odd one out. If I knew that the family was considering healthcare or more hours, and the hours would earn more than the healthcare was worth, I would definitely choose the healthcare over the hours. But if the family didn't give me a choice and just said I was working more hours, without checking my schedule first, I would be madder than a wet hornet.

Erg. I meant I would choose the hours over the healthcare. Sorry about the typo.

Your nanny may be thinking of a new job.

I know I would be.

To think that more hours = a working benefit doesn't make any sense at all!

OP, you can add benefits or give a raise. But no matter how fab your kids are, adding more hours to your nanny's workload is not in any way a benefit.

I concur on this too.

OP, I know you are smarter than this!

Maybe OP meant decreasing, not increasing her hours. That would make sense given the rest of the post. OP?

How would decreasing hours but not giving a raise be a benefit for the nanny? She'd be losing income...

I think she means, decreasing the hours, but
keeping the pay the same.
