I'm going back to work in a few months. My mother is available to watch my son, who will be 7 mos old at the time, on Mondays and Tuesdays. Has anyone had success finding a nanny for only three days per week? Or are most looking for full-time work?
Any other issues I should consider with this arrangement? Thanks! |
You might want to look for a nanny split, that way the nanny is guaranteed full time between the two families. If your mom can be flexible on which two days, that would be even better. |
A nanny split like the poster above mentioned would work out.
But there are also nannies out there who are willing to work a few days per week. I am one of them. I am a middle-aged woman who has already raised three kids. In all honesty, I love caring for young children, however no more than say..30hrs/wk. It also depends on the area you live in. What the supply is currently like for part-time nannies seeking some extra spending cash. Perhaps a college student who cannot work full-time while attending class, maybe a Jr. College who lives at home w/her parents and would need to earn some extra spending money on her own. Or a retired woman who is seeking a side job to earn a few extra bucks. Or if you would consider it, perhaps a SAHM who you would be okay with bringing along her own child. I think you have some good options here. |
I'm another nanny who works part-time. My Dh makes enough for us to live off of. I nanny because I enjoy it and it gets me out of the house each day. |
I needed a pt nanny for 3 days. The only applicants were sahm's and under qualified people. I had 5 employees in 2 years! Finally I sucked it up and decided to pay full time wages. In exchange I added an on-call 4th day and that's the day I save for dr visits grocery shopping and errands that are easier to do solo. And I always have the option of not using her the 4th day but she's paid no matter what. Same nanny going on 4 years now. I guess I could never find the perfect PT person, not for lack of trying. |
I too am a grandma aged nanny who only wants part-time work. My first nanny position was just about identical to this. The baby turned 7 months old the first day I started. "Real" Grandma watched her on Mondays, and DB watched her on Fridays. When I first started with them, I was recently retired from my job and wanted to supplement my pension a little bit. But I have had plenty enough bureaucratic office work to last a lifetime, thank you very much. Meanwhile, my grandkids live several states away and I was whining about feeling deprived of the "grandma experience." Next thing you know, this family and I had a mutual acquaintance and that is how we hooked up. They moved 40 miles away when baby girl was almost two and made other arrangements. She is almost 5 now. I still see her once in a while and she is still my sunshine.
But . . . I'm pretty sure most people want full time jobs. |
