The tv nannies/sitters?

Seems to me, this is all personal, that Hollywood always portrays nannies and sitters in such an unrealistic way. It's either the Mary poppin type or the psychotic chick who wants to kill MB and take over household and become wifey ( on lifetime channel). What they truly miss usually is in real life we are far from Mary popin or the crazy nannies. The expectation that sitters should be singing birds, yes girls, doormats is ridiculous. I see some parents post jobs and their demands are so extreme I wonder if themselve ever do those things for their children. M not a nanny anymore but I am an occasional sitter and although I love kids, I could never be a full time nanny cause of those things I mentioned above. So ladies what do u think. Has Hollywood totally influence society so much that nannies have to deal with the consequences now?

It's dcum parents who most often fail to understand the difference between a nanny and a sitter. They dream of a nanny, but can only afford a sitter.

Actually, I could bill myself as Mary Poppins, if I wanted to. I don't mind 24/7, require healthy boundaries, do live-in positions, and don't want to do full housework but am very much in favor of teaching kids to clean up after themselves. The issue is that parents think they want Mary Poppins. If you read the book and/or watch the movie, it's clear that Mary Poppins is not a doormat, takes direction only when it's in the best interest of her charges, will speak her mind when something isn't in the best interests of her charges and uses any reasonable method at her disposal to teach both kids and parents without belittling or demeaning either. Most parents don't really want Mary Poppins, they want someone without boundaries and/or someone who needs constant direction from them. For the few parents who really do want a Mary Poppins, they aren't willing or can't afford to pay what that type of position would require.

Um, hollywood portrays most of life in unrealistic/fairytale/idealized ways.

Happy endings? Perfect sitcom families? Dogs and foxes being best of friends? Beagles flying doghouses? Superheroes saving the world? A lone adult surviving outer space and singlehandedly saving the world? Etc...

You really want to spend your time debating on an anonymous forum about the unrealistic portrayals of hollywood and the inferences you want to draw about all parents?

ummm there are also tv MOMS too. They let their babies/ toddlers constantly watch tv and then wonder why they have speech delays! I've worked w/ doctor families who do this. Unbelievable!

I highly doubt it.

I love Lifetime movies on weekends & have seen a few where the Nannies involved are actually murderers. The recent movie, "Nanny Cam" is a good example.

However, people know that there is a HUGE difference between T.V. + reality. HUGE. Imagine a Lifetime movie where a Nanny gets hired, then everything is all sunshine and unicorns. ZZZ.....Boring, right??!

Any parent who watches a fictional film where a fictional Nanny character is shown, should know the reason why is so the network can get rich.

I am sure there are some parents who may give hiring a second thought after seeing these movies, but c'mon...It's all purely entertainment. Just like "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" was twenty years ago.
