There is to many parents not paying time in a half after 40 hrs RSS feed

Anything after 40 hrs by law is time in a half, so why don't parents pay time in a half.
I have turned down job offers because parents want me to work 50 hours for straight pay. Mean while when taxes come out of my straight pay, I have earned less money and Iam working more hours.

If I have to pay taxes, then the parents should follow the law also.

Depending on the state, overtime isn't required for live-in. This is part of why I negotiate for salary rather than an hourly rate. But I live-in, my salary covers on call hours and a maximum number of hours per week without additional compensation.

A live-in must be paid straight time for all hours, e.g., you work 50 hours, you get paid for 50 hours, not 40. This is Federal law.

You can negotiate any kind of pay structure you wish.

I negotiate for the maximum number of hours I work, which may be 70 or 80 for some families. And some states require overtime for live-in domestic help (Maryland does).

Since you are working on-the-books, there should be a paper trail showing your hours & how your employers paid you.

It clearly would be tangible evidence that you were not being paid OT wages + you could get them back.
