Both Senator Warren and Representative Cohen have also reintroduced the Equal Employment for All Act, which would ban employers from checking the credit reports of potential employees with a few exceptions.
"For hardworking people struggling to make ends meet, the only way to get back on their feet is to find a good job and earn a paycheck. But even when they are able to sell their homes—often at a loss—or after they are forced to close their business’ doors or find temporary work, that bad credit history continues to haunt them," Warren and Cohen wrote. "And despite the often-desperate effort to find a job, many employers are unfairly shutting the door on applicants with less-than-stellar credit. We should call this what it is: discrimination." Nannies are not the only people should be spared this ridiculous practice - it should be banned for all employers of workers not directly involved with the handling of finances/money. |
| I agree. I'm not sure what they think they'll figure out about a person fr their credit other than they don't have much money. I guess some people with bad credit might be sleaze bags but most are just hard working people who need a break. I'd be somewhat more suspicious of someone who has perfect credit; who are they stealing from both literally and figuratively. In both cases there's good and bad in all ends of the credit spectrum. |

Just to be clear, OP, their bill would not allow potential (or current) employers or agencies the ability to snoop into the financial history of domestic workers, including nannies, babysitters and housekeepers?
Thank you. |
I assume so, yes, since the bill has few exceptions but for financial personnel. |
|
I couldn't agree more.
It has always perplexed me how a job can be denied to a person with less than stellar credit. Then how are they supposed to get back on track with money if no one ever gives them an opportunity to make any?? It just doesn't make any cents. Or dollars for that matter. |

Sounds like a good thing to me! I personally would not want to work for parents who run a credit check on me, what a total invasion of privacy. I have good credit too, but I would be a little offended.
On a side note I def earn more than most nannies and I have never had an employer ask for a credit check. Background, and DMV yes but not credit. |
Excuse me ? A nanny with good credit is suspicious? What about a nanny with hundreds of thousands of dollars saved through hardwork and self control . Is that nanny stealing too ? Suspicious that is ridiculous |

I once had someone ask me how I could afford a Neiman Marcus credit card account when they saw my credit report. Where I can afford to shop is none of their business. Period.
Just leave anyone wishing to snoop, unless you're going to be doing their finances. But then you wouldn't be the nanny. This issue is a HUGE red flag. |
My entire immediate family has perfect credit. We all budget well, don't over extend ourselves, and are never late on payments. We never buy anything on credit that we don't have cash to pay off. We have never stolen. |
Congratulations. What does any of that have to do with your job performance? |
