Medical Insurance for Nanny RSS feed

I'm considering providing medical insurance for my nanny, who is wonderful and has been with us for 2 years. What are the steps I'd have to take to do this?

Give her a dollar amount per month probably 200 per month and tell her to get her own,

We are doing this as well. She cannot enroll in a plan until November during open season (agree you should have her enroll). However, we will just reimburse her for the premimum up to $200 a month. You need to check records and always make out check directly to the insurer. This is not taxed.

PP - also use ehealthinsurance.com. Good, reasonable plans.

We know your contribution isn't taxed, but if you're making the check out to the insurer, what records do you need to check and why?

In case you are audited by the IRS need to keep copies of your checks to insurer and a copy of her bills.

And I would avoid giving cash or directly to nanny. This is just to protect you against any questions later.

We did that I lieu of a raise one year. We said $200/ month directed into the account from us, she pays the rest. She shopped around for the best value and what she needed.
That or offer to pay half, both parties need skin in the game.

Her bills may include personal health information regarding any use of her insurance. That's none of your business, but you can certainly keep the copies of your checks which should include her policy number.

Premiums payments do not contain that information.

If you're reimbursing actual health care costs and deductibles - yes will contain personal information.

No. If that's was true all employers would have this information. If you're paying premium ONLY, it won't but if you're reimbursing costs, yes.

Your canceled checks with her policy number is enough.

If you are paying your nanny legally, you will need proof of her health insurance enrollment for your tax purposes.

There have been changes as of 7/1/15 to the Affordable Care Act that all household employers should be aware of in order to comply with the law. Here is some helpful information from GTM Payroll Services: http://gtm.com/household/affordable-care-act-changes-for-household-employers/
