I did it again - a total vent RSS feed

Once again I agreed to do my employers a favor and it has (ONCE AGAIN) turned out to be a much bigger deal than expected!! WHY? Why do I continue to say yes? I am not a kid - what the hell is wrong with me? I have never once asked them for any favor and I am a great nanny -- but an idiot who is incapable, it seems, of saying no.

I am just in a self-hate spiral right now. I am going to have "just say no" tattooed on my hand so I'll be reminded of it every day.

I'm sorry, OP. Most of us have BTDT. We're easy for our employers of.

Can you make it a littler deal? Say something like, "I thought this would be x, but it's turned out to be y, and I can't manage it." Or, "I really need extra time to get this done the way you want. Do you want me to do it like this (done during work hours), or do you want to pay me for another couple of hours to do it like that?"

Oof, been there myself OP. Just remember, "No" is a complete sentence and all you have to say!!

I actually wrote the words "Never offer!" on a post-it and stuck it to my bathroom mirror because my employers never, ever, ever say no to anything I ever offer.

I'm like this too. It blows. I always feel like I can't say no. ?

I am just like you, OP. I hate to say no when it involves my charge. I am actually pissed I agreed to babysit tonight but I did because the back-up sitter makes my charge cry.

People, please say no! As a MB, I offer you the extra hours first, but I don't want a pissed off nanny. Just say no.

Like you, I am a huge people pleaser, most esp. when it comes to my jobs. I always want to give 200% and at times it has bitten me in the butt. Tenfold.

I know how tough it can be to say no to people. What I have learned is that a "Yes" nanny is one that families tend to not think very highly of overall.

They may not have much respect for someone who allows themselves to be taken full advantage of even if they are the ones doing the bad deed.

I can't tell you how many times I have been in that position! I don't know why I say yes either.
