VEC Unemployment Claims RSS feed

Hello:

Our nanny from 1.5 years decided to quit 2 months back without any notice saying she found another job that paid better. She was paid through Medicaid based on the standard rate.

Yesterday I got a voicemail from the VEC that I missed a hearing (for which I never received a notice!) and that the claimant gets the benefit, and that action would be taken etc...Not very audible. I tried reaching that deputy who called me but it keeps going to a VM every-time saying she might be in a hearing.

The VEC main line 1-866-832-2363 is a dead number on their site (ridiculous!)

I am surprised a nanny who worked without any issues for 1.5 years left for another job and then files a claim for unemployment, after she resigned on her own.

Any thoughts on what I should be doing while waiting to receive their so-called "next" notice?

Thanks a ton!

How was your nanny paid through Medicaid?

Did she possibly get let go from the job she left yours for? If she got let go from that job for a legitimate reason, then she would be elible for unemployment compensation. Each state differs a bit, but they basically base the benefit amount on 4 of the last 5 quarters of work history, so approximately the last 18 months of work.

Anon // 0725, 16:10 - out kiddo has special needs and the medicaid provides a few benefits. Even though the govet does everything, I'm listed as the employer

Anon //0724,6;51 - thanks. But would she not list the other employer for the reason being laid off. Why would she list me. It doesn't matter if it was voluntary or involuntary termination to the employment commission? Thanks again.

I know someome with a special needs child and she has turned "Gaming the System" into an art form.. Medicaid actually pays someone to allow her12 hours free babysitting for Christmas Shopping! Your tax dollars at work!

No, if she lost her job after your for a legitimate reason, then she has to list all employers for the last 18 or so months. They have to verify the employment and compensation as all of that goes into determining her benefit amour.

Yes I know a wealthy family who has gotten their two sons diagnosed with mild aspergrs- now they get free full time nannies (3 on a rotating basis) througg medicaid, free healthcare, and to top it off medicaid pays the nanny about 8$/hr.!!! And medicaid is notorious for paying the nanny 6 weeks late for two weeks of work. Obviously they have new nannies about every two months since no nanny can live off of that, but the parents don't care because it's free! Oh and mom doesn't work at all, and dad works part time!!!! Welfare losers!
