| We have a new live-in nanny starting next week. She's young (mid-20's) and is coming from another state. She's moving in a few days before our kids get home from camp, so she'll have time to set up her apartment and get settled. This weekend I will be shopping to put together a nice welcome basket for her room. Nannies, what would you like to find in the basket? TIA! |
| Money |
| She has her own apartment? It can be something simple as bathroom basket with lotion, soap etc. |
|
Local coffee shop gift card.
You're so thoughtful, OP. ...A local tourist book with ideas (and details) about places to see on her days off. |
| Depending on where you live op maybe a metro card, map on local area, gum, tick tacs, lotion, lip gloss, |
Some of her favorite sweets, Starbucks gift card and a candle
|
| OP here - these are great ideas - thank you! And we are also giving her $$ to set up the apartment, so we have that covered. She will have her own living room, small kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. I think this the first time she's had her own place, so wasn't sure what would be helpful. I like the idea of the local stuff (metro card, map, etc.). |
| Not as cutesy but my MIL brought us a basket of toilet paper, clorox wipes, soap, sponges, etc. when we got our first apartment. The sort of things you really don't think of until you're responsible for caring for your own place. |
| My new MB found out that I liked scrapbooking so she bought me a new book and a gift card to a local scrapbook shop. She also included a Target and Starbuck card, a candle and a thank you note for choosing their family. It was way over the top, but very thoughtful and kind. |
|
What an absolutely wonderful + thoughtful idea OP! Sounds to me as if you would like everything to start off on the right foot and I am pretty sure it will considering that you are already so considerate of your new nanny's personal needs.
That being said, for her welcoming basket I would include: a Starbucks gift card, a Target or Walmart gift card, a bath set (body wash/lotion/body mist), a towel collection, a few current issues of a Women's magazine, razors and some Altoid breath mints.

| New sheets and towels is something I'd love if moving to a new place to start over. Esp if the pillowcases or towels were embroidered with something local to my new place. A cute piece of art made by a local artist would be fun. Gift card to a local class related to a hobby would be nice (like a knitting class or kayak lesson for example.) |
| So uplifting that there are some gem employers out there. Bless you, OP. Hope all goes well. I think it will. |

I love this! I was in the same position last year about this time, relocating from CA.
Are you in DC proper? I hope her adjustment in the new city goes well! There were definitely some tough weeks, but I'm so happy I made the move myself. I'll be thinking of her navigating this new endeavor! |
| PP, what were the tough weeks about? Anything your MB could have done to improve things? |
| Bed Bath & Beyond gift card. Every single time I've moved I wind up needing a couple of things from there. |
