| I have a 10-week old son and will be rapidly relocating to the Hill for my husband's new job. We will most likely only be in DC for a year, so trying to line up a day care is off the table, as I've quickly found out that most centers have a 1 year waiting lists. What can I expect for rates of nannies/nanny shares/reputable in-home daycares? I will be working from home, but can't keep an eye on my son all day. |
|
Expect to pay at least $21+ per hour for a nanny willing to work with a WAHM. Also make sure you stay out of her way so you don't run her off.
I doubt you will find an in-home daycare in DC, it's just not something common here. |
|
If the other family hosts, it wouldn't matter that she works from home.
We paid $19/hr for a nanny share in upper NW. I hear that share rates range anywhere from $18 to $23 so that should give you a general idea. |
Your nanny making $38 in your share is pretty good for this area. |
|
OP, on the Hill you will probably see nanny share rates ranging from $20-30/hour (meaning each family pays 10-15 per hour.)
Good luck! |
Agree, but closer to 30. |
| And there are in-home caregivers on the Hill. Look into joining the Moms on the Hill listserve and you'll be able to learn more about in-home options. |
She didn't. $19/hr was the total rate. $9.50/hr per family. |
Wow that is hideous and extortionary. |
That's just not true. Most nanny shares start at $20-25/hour in this area for 2 kids. You can get a lot of info on this from the MOTH archives. Nannies typically aren't earning $25-$30 until they've been with 2+ families for a few years or are watching more than 2 kids. |
In what sense? |
|
| $20/hr is easy to get for just one child. Two obviously needs to be more. |
| NP and I agree with above, I watch one 15 month old boy and make $26 an hour with my recent raise. I would NEVER EVER consider a share where I make only $20/hr lol |
Easy to find nannies that charge less than that. |
