| I have a position lined up ( cousin) to care for her new arrival in July. In the meantime, I chose a 6 week temp position until that kicks in. Well I am was due to start Tuesday but the family sent me a text saying " my mother has decide to care for Larla. We won't be needing you. Best of luck!". Now I'm pissed off because I factored that in. I'm more pissed off she did it over text. |
| I am so sorry, OP. They aren't "flakey" -- they are horrid. |
|
I'm sorry, OP. That really stinks.
How did you find these bad people? |
care.com |
| This is why you should always look out for no. 1. Next time, you have a contract with a clause for 2 week payment if they cancel. Also, why you never give more than 2 weeks notice. |

I would appreciated at least a phone call. It just sucks. I'm a student and can really use all the money I get. Now it's find a a temp job for 5 weeks ( impossible!) or go that long without pay. I'm hoping I can ramp up babysitting to at least bring in something. I have savings but my school costs are just over $6k per semester.
I've been having the most difficult time this year with employers. It's been tough to find a decent fit. This just sucks. I wish I could somehow review them and warn others. |
I actually do have a notice clause but they clearly aren't abiding by it. They are suppose to give at least 1 week notice. |
Can't you post a bad review about them on care.com? Just write exactly what happened and what they did to you. Wait until you calm down and word it carefully. |
Text them back telling them where to send your week's paycheck. |
| I'd text back with your address for them to send your weeks pay per the contract. |

I agree...It was cowardly + tacky to notify you via text message. They probably did it because they knew they were in the wrong and didn't want to be in an awkward conversation. Some people just cannot handle confrontation at all.
The very LEAST they could have done was offer you at least a week's pay for flaking out on you. It never hurts to ask, but I highly doubt they will do it. Anyway, too bad Care.com doesn't have a resource to report bad parents. Only bad nannies. That is because the parents are the ones who are keeping Care.com alive. Have you thought about trying to find a job via a reputable nanny agency OP? So sorry you are going through this. I have had families do this to me many times over and it sucks. Good luck, I truly hope you find something to tide you over until you start w/your cousin. |
| You hadn't started, so what is your problem? Remember your never hired until you start. You should have kept looking until they actually owed you money (i.e. you started working.) |
Good luck with that. |
Good luck with texting? It isn't hard to do... |
| That is terrible, OP. I am really sorry that happened to you. They are really awful people. |
