What percentage of au pair will become pregnant while they say in America and is is true that they lose their j1 visa if they become pregnant? |
stop trying to use this board to do your research.
go to the source websites for Cultural Care, Au Pair in America, etc for your research , and call them. in the last 3 years and about 40 APs in my town, none have gotten pregnant and had to go home. |
You mean none that you know of. Most get abortions because they don't want to get sent home as a failure. |
What is the point of this thread? Why would you think that anyone here would have that data, especially data that is very private? |
Please allow me to ask this question...thanks.... |
The fact is, no one knows how many APs "get pregnant" every year. I'm sure there are some, although all of my APs have been either celibate, discreet or careful. None have come to me asking to help with BC or abortions and I don't personally know any HMs who have had to deal with this.
The APs contract with the agency specifically states that they must be single, not have children and not be pregnant. If they violate the terms of their contract, they lose their sponsorship (the agency is the sponsor, not the HPs) and they lose their J-1 status. |
Abortions. |
We've been around the AP program for 13 years (sister, friend now us as host families). I've never heard of one getting pregnant. Not saying it hasn't happened, but they've never been sent home because of it. |
One of my au pairs became pregnant. After a week of her being unable to wor because of feeling ill I asked if she might be pregnant and gave her another week to figure out what was going on and how she wanted to handle it. She got free prenatal care, including an ultrasound, through planned parenthood. At the end of the second week she opted to return home where she eventually had her baby. She is now a mother. I think if she'd have bit the bullet and worked through her morning sickness (as many people do) she could have continued to work through her pregnancy and she might have finished her year before I caught on. Who knows. Anyway she seems happy now.
I have never heard of any other au pairs becoming pregnant and deciding to keep the baby. |
When I was an au pair, another au pair I was friends with got pregnant. She went on a "trip" and got an abortion without her family ever knowing. |
Just like we don't really know the actual number of abortions, or miscarriages, that are experienced in the broader population, we certainly wouldn't know the pregnancy rate, and resulting abortion or miscarriage rates, amongst APs. An AP can end her year early without giving a detailed reason - so if she wanted to go home to have her baby and keep that private, no one would know. If she wanted to stay and finish out her year, being 20 weeks along when her year is up - her host family would likely notice, but that doesn't necessarily mean the AP agency would have reason to know. The AP agency isn't in a position to provide support or prenatal services, so there's really nothing to gain from bringing them into the discussion. |
Why don't you raise thr money to fund the research if you are so interested in senseless obscure facts? |
I think this is quite common. |
So where are we going with this thread? Having your short term life plans impacted by an unexpected pregnancy doesn't only happen to Au Pairs as far as I know. |
Short term life plans? You must be kidding. |
