Most Comprehensive Payroll Service for Nanny payment RSS feed

We are considering hiring a nanny and want to use a payroll service. We've hear that DC with the tax office can be a pain for reporting, etc. How do we make this painless? What service do we use?

I use Homepay (formerly breedlove) and they've been great. Very on top of the state specific stuff and always completely timely w/ payroll, tax filings, etc...

Homework solutions has also been good. We've used them for 5 years.

Homepay is great

Waste of your money, imo.

I also do everything myself, but why is it a waste of money if other people don't want to?

I'd like to do the whole process of hiring a nanny, and paying her myself. Is there anyone who could provide some tips on how to process.
Many thanks for your help!

Intuit

Make sure you do you research; you will get what you pay for. I've heard Intuit is cost effective, yet is completely do-it-yourself. Homepay is very pricey and doesn't offer workers compensation which is required in DC for full and part time nannies. GTM offers workers compensation coverage, handles your tax filings and pays your nanny at a reasonable cost.

It looks like GTM and care.com/Breedlove are about $65 dollars a month. Are any of the other options cheaper? That seems insane.

How much is Intuit?

It may be insane, but for us peace of mind is key, since with Breedlove everything is automated, customer service is amazing, and they automatically pay the state/local taxes when they are due. So for us, completely worth the "insane" amount of ...$60.

What did you need customer service for?

$60 * 12...

I've just been doing the calculations about which payroll service to set up, and the $1000 per year of cost for Homepay/Breedlove is sheer lunacy. Perhaps if I were employing a full time nanny, but for a 12 hr/week job, that's basically paying a month in salary. There has GOT to be a better option.
