When should I get my "new baby" raise? RSS feed

Hi. My nanny family is getting a second child in a couple days. My MB & DB are very hands off parents. They hired a 24/7 baby nurse for 9 months. I will most likely get charge of him after that. I have worked at this job for 2.5 years, and I have never received a raise yet. I am sure the baby nurse will ask me to look after the child while she does a few errands.

Do you think I should get a raise now, or in 9 months. I'm feeling reluctant to help the baby nurse at all, she is very cold and unkind. But I will if I am being paid to.

What do you think?

Why don't you do the errands and let the nurse do her job. Then you can take over in 9 months once the baby is easier. Why exactly do you need a raise here? They hired another person.

You don't deserve a raise until you have the baby full time. However, you should have gotten an annual raise at your annual review (after the first year).

*IF she did a good job. Being a nanny is not like being a waitress, you don't get a raise/tip just for showing up.

You can assume she was doing a good job since her employers haven't replaced her. Everyone gets a COL raise.

+1 They have hired someone to care for the new baby. You have no grounds on which to ask for a raise on that front at all!!!

But you should have received a raise within 2.5 years. Ask your employers for a review.

You do not deserve a raise for a new baby until you have been asked to care for the new baby!!! His presence in the home is NOT a reason to give you a raise.

But if the nurse leaves the baby in her care while on errands, she is looking after the child- even if it is a few hours a day. I bet this nurse is being paid a fortune, perhaps the nurse should pay the nanny for the time she leaves the baby in the nanny's care, especially if the parents aren't going to pay her. The nanny should not work for free!

Not true at all.

Why aren't you caring for the new baby from
the very beginning?

I would assume the nurse has some kind of care plan with the parents. Perhaps she will take the baby with her. You aren't doing extra work. Many people aren't getting raises right now. If you want one, ask but because of length of time not baby.

OP is one of those "babysitter" nannies. The family hired someone experienced to care for the newborn, and OP still wants a raise.

Anyone who has had no raise in 2.5 years is stupid. Sorry.

Yes, of course you should make add'l money since you will be assisting the new baby nurse.

However, if she does not ask you to do anything, I wouldn't expect a raise.
