| Thinking about hiring someone to come help with a 10mo a couple times a week (10-15 hours/week) so I can get some things done around the house and run errands. I don't want the person to clean or do anything other than watch, feed, and play with the baby. What's the going rate for this? |
|
Depends on the age of the person.
I have a mother's helper - she's 13 and she plays with the kids and that's about it. She gets $8/hr but I don't leave the house when she's there. For teenage babysitters I pay $10/hr. For adults who babysit I pay $13-15/hr. |
| What's the best way to find someone? Care.com? |
I doubt that many 13 year olds are on care.com. Ask around your neighborhood if you want the very young mother's helper route. Care.com if you want a college girl. |
Definitely want someone older since I'll need to be out of house from time to time, and because I need help during the week while most 13 year olds would be in school. Has anyone found a good mother's helper on care.com? |
You want a Babysitter, OP, not a Mother's Helper. Yes, we found a brilliant sitter on care.com. |
|
AGreed - you are talking about a babysitter - not a mother's helper.
You can find them on care.com but your single best resource is your neighborhood listserv. |
| Thank you! |
Wow, by "adults" I hope you mean 18 year olds who are finishing their last year of H.S. |

I agree...If you are going to be leaving your baby w/someone alone while you need to leave the house + do other stuff, then that person is no longer a "Mother's Helper."
She would be in fact a bona fide babysitter. A "Mother's Helper" would be someone who would work alongside a Mother, shadowing her perhaps, while she cares for her child. Hope this helps. |
