Feel responsible for finding my replacement RSS feed

I gave a 2 1/2 months notice to NF because my school schedule now conflicts with the times in supposed to work. NF asked me if I could let them know if I know anybody, but unfortunately none of my friends are nannies or interested in taking care of kids. I have given them a few numbers but it hadn't worked out. They keep telling me how hard it is for them and to please keep asking friends, and I'm starting to feel responsible for finding my replacement. I have exhausted all my options and don't have anyone else to ask. How do I gently let the family know that it's now up to them to find a new nanny?

It should always been up to them, not you.

This is good. It is not your job PP, just as it wouldn't be their responsibility to ensure that you had employment if they were letting you go. You did what you could, you gave plenty of notice, so no need to feel guilty.

Agree with this. It's not your responsibility. This is why you gave so much notice. I would not be surprised if they have not placed even one ad, and are just being lazy to rely on you to do the work of finding someone.

They NEVER should have put that burden upon you in the first place.

OP, it is not your place to secure them a new nanny. That is for them to do.

Sounds to me like they are just lazy.

You gave them plenty of notice, more than triple the amount of time they were entitled to.

They are nuts.

Nanny as parent.
Of course her friends don't want to go there.

What horrible employers yo have. Tell them to F off. I wouldn't let my friends work for people like that

"I've asked my friends but the schedule isn't quite what any of them were looking for and/or they weren't looking for a new job. I'd encourage you to post on Care.com, SitterCity, and join your neighborhood listesrve if you're not on already - you can get local recommendations there too."

OP here- thank you everyone for your responses. They have not posted ads or on any websites because they want someone that is referenced, "not a total stranger." Today I gave them the last refer all I had, but they are not okay with the work hours. So I told them I cannot help them find someone anymore.

Good for you OP, this isn't your job. You gave them tons of notice and they will figure it out when they have to.

Odd. As an employer I'd never even think to ask my nanny to help.

I've since moved to AuPairs and find that the outgoing AP is very helpful during the interview process, especially since they can talk to the prospect in their own language. PLUS the outgoing AP can, from her perspective, tell the prospect exactly what to expect if they come to work for our family.
