Filing for a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) RSS feed

Anyone know if I need to form a corporation or LLC to file for a FEIN, or whether I can request the FEIN as an individual? If I can do this as an individual, is there any reason that I should use a corporation or LLC instead? I'm just doing this to pay our nanny on the books, and don't want the hassle of the formalities of a corporation/LLC if I don't need one. Thanks!

Sorry, forgot to mention that I live in DC (don't know if that matters though).

I got a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) a while back and was required to get a FEIN. I got mine as sole proprietor of my business.

No. You don't. I got one as an individual solely for doing what you are doing.
