If your nanny is sick (from a cold that she caught from your child) and you still have her come into work, do you mind if she has a low-key day with the kids?
By low-key, I mean things like playing quiet games, reading and watching a movie?

Mrs. Simon Legree, If your kid made her sick. I would tell her to stay home, pay her, and not count it against her days off.

No I don't mind.

We had this exact scenario this week. I came home to find the kids still in pjs, they hadn't left the house, the laundry hadn't been done, and the nanny had the headcold we'd all been passing around.

I can't judge the nanny harshly when I would do the exact same thing. The kids were fed, clean and fine. It's ok if they have a down day. (Though not tv all day - that isn't ok.)

When the nanny gets the stomach flu from the kid then she stays home. For a garden variety headcold then I appreciate her coming to work and am supportive of her doing far less than usual.

When nanny starts getting liberal with the "sick" days we replace her.

What are you babbling about? Who said anything about sick days?
Did you get into your box of wine a little earlier than usual?

I'm not paying her to do a half-asses job. If she's sick then I don't want her at the house, I want the kids moving. If she gets sick too often she needs to move on.

Did you read the part where the nanny's charges got her sick?
You're insane and your opinion is neither wanted nor needed.

Kids are sick a lot... if my nanny got sick every time one of my 3 kids got sick she would never be here, but guess what, she shows up, healthy time and time again.

Where in this entire post does it say the nanny got sick every single time one of your kids got sick?
Please tell me because I don't see it. This has absolutely nothing to do with this post.
I think you are looking for attention.

Of course it's fine. That's fine even when she's not sick. Not every day has to be major activities. It's good for kids to have a quiet day every now and then too.

You are obviously not a mom. Kids need to stay active, every day.

Oh, that's sooooo true!

That's why we shackle our nanny in the basement and only let her out when it's time to drive Larla to gymnastics.

We all power through work if we have a cold. So does our nanny, we tell her to take it easy but she still goes and schedules play dates, outings, etc. So hard to tell what she means by not feeling well.
We do however want to know if she has a fever and what temp at night and in the AM. Then we say stay home. She hasn't taken that may sick days at all, maybe 1-2, and then Anjou here or there for a doctor appointment.

Bull. Were you active every day? I wasn't and am fine. Most of you enroll your kids in so many activities they have no time to be quiet, to read, daydream, think.

Playing games, reading and watching the occasional movie isn't being active?
