I'm behind getting my nanny's W-2 out, but am completing it today. I can figure out if I screwed up by not using a payroll service, but thought I had it under control. Anyway, I don't seem to have an MD State Taxpayer ID number or see any way to get one online. Do I just put my FEIN there?
Thanks! |
You might want to have a tax person help you out this year - probably won't be much for a one time thing! Yes, payroll services are the way to go - we use GTM payroll services. |
You should have gotten a state ID number when you registered to pay unemployment insurance in MD. You did do that, right? |
You needed to register with MD for withholding taxes. They give you the number - not sure if it's the same as unemployment as we aren't registered for that since we live in DC and our nanny lives in MD. You should give her the w-2 without for the time being so she can do her taxes. For us, it took about a month to get the letter with our number.
Make sure you are also submitting the w-2 to SSA. You don't NEED to have a p/r service, but you do need to stay on top of things so for some it makes more sense to hire either p/r service or accountant. I'm a cpa so it's a cakewalk for me ![]() |
If they aren't in MD, and so don't have to pay MD unemployment, and also aren't withholding state taxes, then she doesn't need a MD state tax ID #. |
