When to pay nanny RSS feed

My nanny is about to use 10 days of her PTO. Does she get paid for that time before she leaves or when she comes back? She'll get her regular weekly check before she leaves.

I pay for the PTO as if it were a regular pay period. So, Since I pay on the 15th and 30th each month, if she was going to be away the 12th-21st, she would get paid for the 12th-15th on the 15th, and the 16th-21st on the 30th.

If she's going away the 17th-26th, all of that would be paid on the 30th. Now, if she's asked that the money be advanced, and you can afford it, I don't see any reason not to give it to her. There's no way she could end up not working those days.

Oh -- the other reason not to do it is that all that extra pay on one check may throw her into a much higher tax bracket, and she'll end up paying a lot more in withholding. If you don't withhold her income taxes, though, it won't matter.

I pay exactly as though she was working those days. Generally I would not advance salary.

I never advance salary. I pay it the same way the PP does - within the regular pay period.

I'm a nanny whose family doesn't do direct deposit. So they always give me a check for any PTO before any vacation days. If we did do direct deposit, I'd be fine with them continuing to deposit on the expected payday. I'd also be fine if they gave me a check before leaving, but asked me not to deposit it until normal pay day. I'd be less ok if they didnt pay me at all until after I'd returned from the PTO.

Nanny here. If I were on vacation on my payday, I would expect that check to be waiting for me when I returned. I would not expect an advance.
