Hi,
I have an 11 month old son and I've stayed home with him since he was born but I'm about to go back part time. I hate the idea of day care but am not sure if we can afford a nanny. Do nannies in this area (specifically Alexandria) ever do it part time? Are nanny shares the way to go? My main question- what is a typical rate for a one on one nanny and a nanny share? Please feel free to email. Sarabollingcox@gmail.com. Thank you in advance! |
| Part time is very hard to find. Most nannies prefer a full time 40-50 hour a week. Could try a nanny share but even those folks may wish to have full time to split the costs. |
| There are lots of part time nannies. Depending, on how much experience you require, budget from $16-20. You could also join an existing share, but be prepared to pay a slightly higher rate, and guarantee your hours. Check your neighborhood listserv. Not all nannies work 50 hours or wish to. You'll find someone if you search around you. |
| Join Old Tom Moms listserve - there are people posting about their nanny's part time availability fairly often, some shares, some not. In terms of rates, I think $15/hr would be on the low end, $17/hr should get you some eager candidates. |
| For the best nannies you can try $20-25/hr. |

If by "part-time" you mean two full days a week then you will have no problem finding a good nanny. As long as they are set days that do not change week to week.
A half-day nanny is nearly impossible to find for less than $25 an hour. |
