Sleeping Adjustment

I started with a new family 2 weeks ago. Ive never had the issue with putting a child to sleep. My new charge does not/will not sleep if she isint laying your chest. I cant put her down in her Pack and Play her crib her swing to sleep she need to be laying on chest her mom actually encourages it. Its ridiculous I cant do the dishes laundry clean her playarea etc.. Because im literally paralyzed for 1-130hr because of her nap. Tips or Tricks to help me deal with this situation? Im pretty desperate

I could never put my current charge down when he was a newborn either. I would just sit and stare at the wallpaper for an hour and a half.

In your case I would try to put her down in her crib once she is in a deep sleep (when you lift her arm up and drop it and she has no muscle tension at all).

How old is your charge?

I have been in the exact situation. I started when my charge was 12 weeks. He would only nap when he was held; it sucked. I know the pp offered advice about waiting until she is very asleep but we both know that doesn't work. My charge would awake no matter how deep asleep until I picked him up again. I couldn't do laundry, dishes, or even get a lunch break.

I think you are in a tricky situation because it all depends on what MB and DB want. I would talk with them and see what methods they would be willing to try. At first MB was reluctant to try anything but she realized that he was not getting sufficient deep sleep while being held. Eventually we " trained" him. Slowly it went from attempting 3 times, and letting him fuss for a few, and following that pattern. The best thing we did was swaddle. He started sleeping up to 2.5 hour naps at 4 months with his swaddle.

I feel your pain. I was in the same situation and felt desperate too. Just remember it won't last forever. Please talk to MB.

Babies eventually learn to sleep in the crib (swing, pack n' play, whatever). Keep trying. Until the baby is able to make the transition, use a baby-wearing wrap during naps, or quickly do the dishes while the baby is awake in a bouncy seat nearby.

Ask them to purchase a carrier and baby wear. You can get all your chores done. I actually enjoyed the time I had when I was to hold the baby. You can read a book or watch tv you don't need to stare at the wall
