Why is it such a big deal? RSS feed

Ive read some post here about a mom who said that one of the reson why she is a great employer is because she lets her nanny watch tv while baby is asleep. I looked at my contract and it says no tv, no internet while on duty... Hmm... Ive been with this family for over 3 years and i do watch tv while kids are asleep (not everyday but i would say 2 out of 5 days a week), and i am using ipad every day (for some reason i didnt even notice that info)

To MBs who do not let your nanny watch tv./use computer. Are you crazy? Do you all really think that your nanny looks at the monitor the whole time while your baby is asleep!? Assuming that everything around is done and a nanny has a little break, why is it an issue?

First of all, your english writing skills need to be better if you want to be taken seriously.

Secondly, if you are knowingly, intentionally, violating the terms of your contract then you are putting your job at risk.

I'm an MB. I fully expect and encourage our nanny to relax in whatever way she wishes (tv, phone, books, naps) whenever she is able to get some down time. But our nanny is also incredibly honest and I trust her without reservation.

Your employers certainly can't feel that way about you.

Yes, OP, we are crazy because we expect an employee to work on the clock and not watch TV. Sometimes, yes, a nanny looks at the monitor the whole time and there is no supervisor to report this to us. The issue is trust. Until a NF trusts their nanny, they should invest in nanny cams to ensure nannies are only taking a "little break".

What a stupid question. Seriously.

The tv in our house is in the master bedroom. There is no reason at all for the nanny to be in there at any time in the day. Thus, yes we would be upset if she were watching tv.

I'm a nanny and also believe that moms who think we play with your kids 10 hours a day without taking any break are just stupid.

Our nanny plays candy crush on her iPhone while DS naps. This is after she's tidied up the kitchen from lunch, prepared his snack for when he wakes up, and has taken care of his laundry on days that needs to happen. I don't care what she does with her spare time if her duties are done. It's a long day.

But, if I cared enough about something to put it in the contract, I'd expect that particular wish to be respected.

I never watch TV during the day, even when parents say it's ok, but I'd it were in the contract, I'd assume it meant no TV for the kids not the nanny during nap time

I'm sure you could have responded without insulting the OP. English is not the first language of many posters on here.
