We are trying to make decisions about my work next year and our oldest child has been in preschool for 2 years so we are not sure what the going rate is for a nanny share now. We have a 1 year old and if I go back to work full-time, we'd need childcare 7:30 - 4:30 five days a week, so about 45 hours/week. Could folks give us a general range of what we can expect to pay for a good, stable nanny share?
Thanks for any other insights folks want to share... |
| Nanny shares in this area are around $18-$20/hour on average, so $9-$10/hour/family. Before I get jumped on...there are of course nannies that make more, and those who make less, but that rate will find you someone stable and experienced. With a share, if stability is a concern, you also need to really vet your share family as well. Good luck! |
| $15 /hr per family is a good starting point. |
for your own nanny |
| Plus overtime. |
| Two years back, we did a rate of $18.50 average per hour for 45 hours (so, 9.25 per family), but with taxes, bonuses, health insurance contribution and the like, it ended up costing about 26-27K per family a year. The share was in NW DC. |

| $18.-$25. per hour is a more accurate range for a nanny share, depending on the ages of the children. |
15ph for one child, full time nanny not a share. That's what we did since I was the one dropping and picking up the older child and once in awhile he has the day off and we paid $18 ph rate those days. |
You got a super bargain. Kiss her feet. |
Actually, that is an average rate in DC. No need to kiss anyone's feet. |
Do you mind me asking what area you live in and when you would need the nanny to start? I'm looking for a new position |
