General cost per family for a full-time nanny share RSS feed

We are trying to make decisions about my work next year and our oldest child has been in preschool for 2 years so we are not sure what the going rate is for a nanny share now. We have a 1 year old and if I go back to work full-time, we'd need childcare 7:30 - 4:30 five days a week, so about 45 hours/week. Could folks give us a general range of what we can expect to pay for a good, stable nanny share?

Thanks for any other insights folks want to share...

Nanny shares in this area are around $18-$20/hour on average, so $9-$10/hour/family. Before I get jumped on...there are of course nannies that make more, and those who make less, but that rate will find you someone stable and experienced. With a share, if stability is a concern, you also need to really vet your share family as well. Good luck!

$15 /hr per family is a good starting point.

Two years back, we did a rate of $18.50 average per hour for 45 hours (so, 9.25 per family), but with taxes, bonuses, health insurance contribution and the like, it ended up costing about 26-27K per family a year. The share was in NW DC.

$18.-$25. per hour is a more accurate range for a nanny share, depending on the ages of the children.

15ph for one child, full time nanny not a share. That's what we did since I was the one dropping and picking up the older child and once in awhile he has the day off and we paid $18 ph rate those days.

Actually, that is an average rate in DC. No need to kiss anyone's feet.

Do you mind me asking what area you live in and when you would need the nanny to start? I'm looking for a new position

$9-10 per one kid
$15 per two kid per family.
