Hi everyone -
I'm a single mother living in Fairfax, Virginia (By the Vienna Metro station) with a two-year-old. I work full-time until 6 PM, and then bring my daughter back From daycare to get home by 7 PM or so. I'm trying to find a nanny who can work for me from 6 PM to 9 PM to help cook for my daughter, Give her a shower at the end of the day, do minor cleaning etc.. My question for the moms in the group - any suggestions on whether it would be easy / difficult to find a late evening part-time nanny? Should I be expecting to pay more for the odd hours than a normal rate? any particular suggestions, tips on where to go looking Would be much appreciated. Regards & Thanks in advance. |
| Do you have a local parents list serve? Try posting there to target nannies already near your home during the day. Pay more then average to sweeten the deal. |
| Should be able to find some underpaid full time nanny who needs more money and wants an extra job. However, they'll probably burn out after a few months. |

You could probably find a nanny who finishes work on the earlier side and wants some extra 'babysitting money"
How many evenings a week are you looking for, because your 2yo may not be very receptive to someone else after being in daycare all day and then not seeing you all evening either. |
| nannies and sitters, generally dont do cleaning unless specifically related to the childcare they are doing. |
This is an excellent point. Most nannies would run from any job where the child wanted his mother (which is natural) and the mother was there. Look for a less expensive babysitter, maybe a college kid. |
