Employers have decided to put video monitoring in all the kids rooms and play areas? How would other nannys feels about this? Parents who have did this, what is your reasoning for doing so. Why hire a nanny you don't trust? |
I'd be lining up a new job. The neighbors might be watching you to, for all you know. |
Goodbye. I quit. |
My employer have cameras linked to the internet in the baby's room and the living room. They can watch from any computer or smart phone anytime in real time.
I actually like it. I want them to see how hard I work and how engaged I am with the baby. Plus, when he took his first steps I could tell them to go back and watch the video if they missed it. I've also asked them to check the feed before they call me to make sure the baby isn't sleeping. I don't think about it very much anymore but honestly I like them seeing what is going on. I feel as if it is an added protection for me as well. |
I actually like having cameras, too. I work really hard and want my employers to know it. Every once in a while it will occur to me that my butt is facing a camera and must look huge on their monitor or that I am singing off-key but generally I forget about it.
It is, as PP wrote, protection for the nanny. No one can accuse you of goofing off if they see you working. |
Thing is, you have no clue who all is watching you. These cameras are not considered to be secure. Assuming the parents know this, they shut off the cameras as soon as nanny leaves. |
I'm sure my employers never shut the cameras off. They showed me a video of the baby goofing around in the middle of the night once and another of the baby laughing. Who else could be watching them/me/us and what would they gain from that knowledge? Honest question. |
I'm a MB and we don't, but many of my friends have video cams. They like to see what their kids are up to during the day, and see milestones like first crawl, step, etc.
not a big deal, but it may be a deal breaker between you if you feel strongly against it. |
What do creeps gain from being creeps? Who cares. GL. |
My previous employer installed cameras well after I had started with them (maybe 6 months in) and it didn't bother me. It was just a way to check in. I know they could view the feed anytime from their phones and I assume they didn't record full time to any tape or hard drive. I know they both work and don't have time to watch me all day nor do they want to spend their weekends reviewing footage if there was any, so it never bothered me.
They never mentioned them again once they were installed and never mentioned anything I did or didn't do that they could have only seen with the cameras. If they bother you you must not be very secure in your abilities or job performance. |
What bothers me about being filmed is who else has full access to this footage? I wonder if my bosses would show it to their friends and family members without telling me about it or maybe they didn't even feel the need to tell me about it and that would not sit well with me.
Because once you are captured on celluloid, it is permanent. Not that you are doing anything illicit, but still...You are on film and there is tangible footage of you for God knows who to watch. Maybe your boss's husband or his friends or whoever watches you and masturbates at just your image...??! How can you ever be sure?? And where does the liability factor weigh in here?? |
MB here. I have interior security cameras. Not nanny cans per se but they essentially do function similarly
They are a key part of the security system. They won't be turned off. Ever. they are secure. The footage doesn't hang around forever. 60 days max unless I choose save a specific clip. Which I have never done. I do occasionally tune in to see my son. Because I miss him while I am away. Usually only on an overnight trip. Nanny is aware of the cameras. Knows I look in on occasion. If you would quit bc cameras are installed I susoect you are not quite doing your job. Many jobs have cameras on employees all day long. Why not yours? |
You need to guarantee your cameras are secure, and state exactly who will have access.
This goes in the contract, just like at any other job. Thanks. |
Wow... If your biggest worry about cameras is DB throwing a group circle jerk party with his work friends to get off on videos of you playing blocks with his baby daughter then you my dear have bigger problems. See a psychologist. |
Hi Nanny,
I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think they are accusing you etc. if you feel that way just ask them why? I installed them because I had a horrible childhood experience with babysitters and deep deep down I have issues. Now, we love you and appreciate everything you do and consider you family and wouldn't want anybody else but you with our precious little one. It's more for me, to turn on in the middle of the day during my break and see how happy my little one is with you. It gives me peace. It also makes me appreciate you that much more! I hope you understand and someday if and when you want or have kids, I hope you'll understand that much more. Again thanks for all that you do! ![]() |
