Why post a job ad nearly a year before the start date?

If you won't need a nanny until September 2015 why are you posting an ad in December 2014?

Is it just the excitement of new parenthood?

Cluelessness.
They must know know you look 1-2 months out only. Just like looking for an apartment in DC (but more lead time in NYC is fine).

Really and I have seen several listings like this.

I was wondering if it was in a suggestion suggestion in a pregnancy book or something.

That's often the lead time for daycares. I'd chalk it up to cluelessness.
