If you have a full-time nanny job, do you babysit for kids with colds?
|
| Yes. |
You don't worry about passing a cold on to your NF? |
Do they worry about passing a cold onto you when their kids are sick? |
| No I don't. My main job and school are my priorities. I can't afford to be not 100% for a $60 gig. |
That's my job. Besides, if they get me sick, they never count it against my sick time. |
My NF does... |
You're working for crappy people. |
Yeah, I came down with the stomach bug after being cooped up with their vomiting toddler all day and MB said "You can go, but I may have to dock one of your vacation days." Despite the fact that I haven't used all my sick days. Hence why I spend a lot of time daydreaming about quitting. Sorry to hi-jack the thread. |

Yes. I do sit for kids with colds.
No I'm not overly concerned with bringing a cold to my NF You can pick up that same cold going to the grocery store or the movies. I would only consider doing differently if I worked for NF where there was a medical situation requiring extreme caution. I'm firmly in the camp of part of the reason our kids have so many issues is because they are too clean we bubble wrap them and obsess over germs. |
Avoiding someone who is actively sick isn't bubblewrapping. |

Yes. I take care of the children in my full-time nanny job regardless of what illness they have and will take an evening babysitting job with a different family even if their child has a cold.
Teachers teach, nurses nurse, coaches coach, etc regardless of whether the children in their care have colds or not. |
Should she also avoid visiting with family from out of town because her nephew has a cold, and there's a chance your precious Larla will catch a cold? If you want to have this much say over what nanny does in her free time I hope you compensate her extremely well. Otherwise bubbles are probably on sale this time of year. |
MB here. I agree with this. Unless the kid has a fever, the contagious phase is probably past anyway, especially if you practice reasonable hand-washing. |
| I babysit for sick kids all the time. I have only been sick twice in the last 25 years so I am not worried. Guess I just have a good immune system. |
