My NF is rich but cheap bastards RSS feed

My NF is rich but I'm working $18 for a 12 week, 40 hour weeks. The dad owns his own real estate firm and makes $700-900k a year. My MB is a pharmacist and makes $130-150k a year. They are making at least a million yearly. They live a $2.3mil home. I found out from MB that she won a lottery when she was younger and it was in the low millions. They must be worth at least $10million. Now I feel cheated. People with that kind of money shouldn't be so damn cheap. I feel like quitting.

It's none of your business how much
money the family makes or has. If they
pay you the rate you asked for then
I would consider that generous.

How do you know how much they make? Are you going through their financial records?

No, but I know how much pharmacists make and I've seen tax documents reporting their yearly income that were left out. I just think $18/hr is low for people who have millions.

You accepted the job.

Their income is none of your business.

They could find far better for that rate by the way - I'd do your best to hide your true attitude.

They are paying you a reasonable salary. They do not owe you anything. Get your education or a higher paying job.

I refuse to believe this is anything but a troll post, because nannies are all greedy and entitled.

Eye roll. Time for a new schtick.

+100.

Also, it doesn't matter what they make. It only matters what the market rate for your job in your area.

$18/hr is pretty good if you are in DC.

Unless they're asking for loads of extras and are making the job particularly difficult, 18/hr is a very reasonable wage. The price of goods and services does not depend on the ability of the consumer to pay, but on the quality of those goods/services.

I hope the NF wakes up and fires their immature, petty, snoopy nanny.

Perhaps they are paying what your services are worth. Or maybe they are overpaying you.

You deserve to be market rate regardless of how much money your employer has. Good grief, walmart rakes in billions, but they don't pay more than min wage to most of their employees. (though we can certainly debate the morality of that.)

You are looking at things all wrong OP. You think that the wealthier the family you stumble onto the higher you should be paid. But in reality the more you are worth to a family determines how much they will pay you.

For example, you NF might not pay YOU $30/hr, but they might pay a good nanny that rate. You are worth no more than $18/hr.

I work for a family with two working parents that don't make all that much money, especially for living in DC and make $7 an hour more than you do, because I am worth it.

Good luck OP.

I think $18/Hr. is a good rate OP.

Esp. if it is only for one child and no housework.

How many children do you care for + do you have to do any cleaning up?

Think about it - if you had a billion dollars would you pay seventy-five dollars for a hot dog? Just because someone has money doesn't mean they will over-pay for goods and services!!! 18 is respectable. If you want to earn more get more more training or do more.
