I am not upset she fell asleep but that she fell asleep with my child. I consider that unsafe sleeping, and now am worried she doesn't take sleeping conditions seriously. |
Why are you telling us? TELL YOUR NANNY that you feel that co-sleeping is unsafe and you do not want her to do it ever again. It doesn't matter what your nanny takes "seriously" - it matters what you take seriously as her employer.
Make sure your nanny has taken basic CPR and Infant Safety. |
Is she obese? Is she a heavy sleeper? Did she wake as soon as you walked in or did you have to wake her up? |
She is not obese. I don't know if she is a heavy sleeper or not but she didn't wake up till I said something. |
My question is do you think this is a read flag? Her lack of regard for safety? |
No, not necessarily although I do see it as a lack of education and training. If you told her before that she should never sleep while holding the baby I would be concerned that she wasn't doing as you, her employer, specifically requested. |
I agree with PP. Does your nanny know that sleeping with an infant in her arms is unsafe? |
OP maybe you should be thankful you have a nanny that will balance out your hover-parenting.... someone that can let your child have some other life experiences than living in a safety bubble. |
A six-month-old was smothered to death in Scottsdale (it was in the paper) last summer when the grandmother fell asleep with the baby in her arms. Not sure I would consider OP to be "hovering". |
"Nanny, please don't sleep with Baby X on the couch. Thank you." |
I've fallen asleep on the couch with my charges before, MB came home and put a blanked on us. It was sweet and OP should be lucky to have a nanny that doesn't just reinforce the same overbearing lifestyle that she lives. |
Wow. I'm amazed anyone think it is professional to sleep on the job. It isn't and if you continue with this nanny, OP, you should give her a warning that this is unacceptable and unsafe behavior. |
Obviously you have no idea how hard taking care of a baby is. |
I am a nanny and I would have fired this nanny in a heartbeat! |
I am a nanny and I had to hold my newborn charge for all naps due to severe reflux. I did not put that baby down for four straight months. I was tired but NEVER fell asleep while holding him. When I would start to feel sleepy I would stand up and walk him around. It was not easy but it was absolutely doable.
I would fire that nanny as well. |
