Appropriate gift for Charge's baptism?

My sweet charge is 1.5. He is being baptised over the weekend. I was invited, but can't make it unfortunately.
I have been with my wonderful NF since the little guy was 8 weeks old.
I know it isn't necessary, but I'd like to buy him a gift.
He loves to read, so I thought I'd get him a classic book.
I know he might be a bit young for it, but do you think an inscribed copy of 'Where the Sidewalk Ends' would be ok?
It's something he could keep and enjoy as he gets older.
