Hello! Advice needed. We have a 2 day a week nanny and we are possibly moving 15 mins the opposite way from her location. This would make her commute to our new location 25-30 min each way. I honestly think if we decide to move and break this news to her she may not feel the job (pay wise) is worth the commute, since we don't require a lot of hours.
We really enjoy her and she's been great with our family for the several months she has worked with us and we would like for her to continue. We would likely need to offer her more $$ to make a further drive.. what would be reasonable? |
Ask her. I would do at least $10, if not more per day. |
$10 extra per day sounds nice. |
You could think of it in terms of the additional time it would take her - which sounds like another half hour total daily. So you could pay her whatever her hourly rate is for that time. (And round up so it's generous.)
Which may get you to $10/day. ![]() |
Absolutely.
I would offer her higher pay since you are correct that if her commute will be longer, it may not make financial sense for her to continue working for you. It couldn't hurt to offer her. |
Even if you make the offer, I would suggest a trial period after which you'll check in to make sure it's working.
A ten-minute commute makes it easy in the mornings; a 30-minute commute is ripe with possibilities for encountering traffic, weather delays, general lateness, etc.. One or both of you may find it's not working after a few weeks. Or, it may be no problem. Offer the extra cash, and see. |
