I was a nanny over the spring/ early summer for what I thought was a nice family. MB was a school teacher so I had the summer off and I was to return in September. She waited until 3 weeks ago, to tell me they're moving and my services were no longer needed via text message. I called MB yesterday to see if someone called about a job I applied for.. No answer, but her DH called back from her phone and told me no one called, don't 'harass' his wife and if I called again, to bother them he would press charges! I'm truly at a loss of words. I've done nothing to this family but help them. I've never spoke with MB only via text, when she finally said we don't need you anymore. I didn't leave on bad terms and haven't done anything to this family and I certainly haven't 'harassed' them.

They're nuts ... You're better off without them.
Good luck on finding another job.

Either this story is fake or there is more to this story than you are telling us OP.

It just doesn't make any sense.

If it's true that totally sucks and I'm sorry.

Are you sure they really moved? Maybe it was there way of firing you.

Sorry you're going through this OP. I had a similar situation over 10 years ago. I had been with the family a year though so it broke my heart and pissed me off because I didn't have a reference from them which made me look bad to new employers. The mom had her second baby so they told me I had two weeks off (unpaid of course) and when I went to return only the dad was home and he told me they didn't need me anymore. I didn't even get to say bye to the little girl I spent a whole year caring for. He got her carseat from my car and took the key and then finally said something like he was sorry it went down like it did. I asked if I had done anything wrong and why they are firing me and he told me his wife had decided not to go back to work after she had the baby. I'm not sure if they knew all along they weren't going to keep me, or if they decided after the baby was born. But it was definitely hard on me, so I know sometimes things like this just happen through no fault of your own. There are shady people out there.

You called your former MB to see if anyone called for you about a job you applied to? Three weeks after you were let go?

That's just weird, OP, and while they might have overreacted by threatening charges, you were in the wrong calling them for such a weird reason. You should not be giving out their phone number for new jobs. Give your mobile number.

What did you do that they don't want anything to do with you?

OP didn't say that, fool.

Even if that is why she called, it's still weird and inappropriate.

This. Cut ties and move on. It's best for everyone. Calling MB is inappropriate and stalker-like. Leave us alone and.... We'll leave you alone too!

It's called reading between the lines and anyone with a high school education should understand that she was calling to see if they called as a reference. Some things don't need to be explained and are self explanatory.
