A 70 year old with not be scrolling instagram all day or texting her boyfriend. She probably has enough control to keep the tv off.

But she'll nod off, and be resistant to doing things differently from the way she did things in 1950.

Oh come on. 70 yr old can watch older kids but not a toddler. Unless she can chase him at the playground for 2 hrs?

Our nanny is 72 and has been with us for 10 years. She is the greatest nanny in the history of nannies. Our youngest is currently 4. Our nanny has endless patience and abundant energy. All three of our kids ADORE her. She is regarded as a beloved member of our family (she was recently widowed and now spends most holidays with us and our extended family). Our nanny is definitely a "young" 72 - she is in incredible shape, takes pilates classes every day, dresses young. She clearly loves our kids and just has a gift with children - every kid loves her, and she remains in close touch with families she cared for before ours. I wouldn't trade her for anyone.

Some 70 years old are very fit and care for their grandchildren. Some can't. But perhaps grandma can prevent some of those tantrums?

Many years ago we had two older Nannie’s and they were wonderful. But we had three kids and after a year or two they both had opportunities with single child families. They were both excellent with the kids and they really kept our homes under control.

I just spoke with my 64 year sister who is a nanny after teaching elementary school for nearly 40 years - she retired 2 years ago. NO ONE can control, lead, guide and love children better than she. She makes a lot of money, and she deserves it.

And no, there is no housework. She is a nanny, not a maid.

I personally wouldn’t hire anyone older than grandma who is late 60s.

I like older nannies. We hired a nice 60 years old nanny, out baby knows her since he was 3 months old and listens to her, has good manners

I don't like young nannies on thier phone all day

No one sends me as many Instagram reels as my 70 year old mother.

I think this is key. A fit active 72 year old may be able to keep up with young kids more than an out of shape, tired 45 year old. Or even a 27 year old in bad health.

If I were hiring a nanny, I’d be more interested in the overall energy level than age.

depends on situation. but i would be hesitant. Older people dont change their ways easily if ever and if my and nanny's parenting style clash-i dont expect her to do as i ask easily. better with younger ones.
