Sick leave - how would you feel about this? RSS feed

Nannies on this forum are so entitled. No matter how nice an employer is and how understanding most just take advantage of the situation.

We have a nanny, came back on day 5 after getting COVID and wore a mask.

I think this is actually a situation where a nanny can take advantage and there is t much you can do without ruining the relationship. At my work, if we are out sick for more than 5 days we need a doctors note. This is to prevent people taking advantage- I have several weeks of sick leave accumulated and I am not allowed to get the flu and just take 2 weeks off without evidence I need it.

Unfortunately, I think that’s hard to do with a nanny. You might be stuck letting her have the time off.

She is sick and only she knows if she is ready to come to work. It doesn't matter what your Ped days because he hasn't examined her. You are questioning her honesty. So what if this inconveniences you. She is ill and that trumps your petty problems. You will have a lot more to whine about when she quits.

The employers are entitled. You think $20/hr entitles you to child care, maid service, chef, laundry and whatever else you want to squeeze out of nanny everyday. I forgot those of you who leave dirty dishes from the weekend or dinner and breakfast. If I were a nanny, I would pile them up on the side for you.

Good for nannies for looking out for themselves!

I had covid and took the 5 days off I needed to. Yeah, I felt like garbage for a few more days but I also couldn't just keep cancelling patients. Sometimes we go to work because we are needed (even when we have the leave).

Yet another prime example of nannies wanting special treatment but also wanting to be considered "professionals". In the real world, sometimes you have to suck it up and go to work even when you don't feel like it because your absence affects other people.

Oh, my goodness, let's have a pity party for you poor, overpaid doctors. I have gathered four friends and each one of us will shed a half tear from each eye totalling four heartfelt tears for your plight. Tsk tsk

I am not a nanny and I disagree
Some of you nanny employers are the most oentitled people I have ever heard. It is a wonder to me that any nanny will work for you because you treat them like 2nd class citizens.
