What qualities are you willing to pay more for when it comes to childcare? RSS feed

I also would only pay more for more tasks e.g. doing all the stuff I do on maternity leave/would do if I were a SAHM.

"Toddlers do not need, use, or understand three syllable words." Really, PP? All of my children were able to do use and to understand three-syllable words by the time they turned two. "Needing", in my opinion, is a completely different matter. Your children may not "need" those words, but my children did. There is a big world out there to explore. I do not believe in clipping my children's wings.

So I am not really sure whether this quality comes from education/experience, but what is most valuable to me is that the person is self-directed and does things without needing to be told to do them.

Anyone same person with a college degree does not become a nanny. Plain and simple.

I'd like to work as a part time nanny while my kids are at school. Would anybody hire me?
I do have a college degree. It's not the degree that would make me a better nanny or even a worker, but I matured a lot during college.

Yes, raising your own children counts as experience. However, you will also need references who are not family members.

Yes, I think you could get a part-time nanny job. There are always families looking for after school nannies who can drive their kids around to karate / scouts / music lessons, etc. So if you have a vehicle and can drive kids around, I predict you could easily find an after school nanny position.

If you will have your own two kids with you, I suppose you would need a van. And your own kids could only do the same after school activities as the kids from the family that is employing you. Or your own kids do no activities and get tagged along to your employers kids activities. Which might be awkward.

Thank you. My employers would vouch for my work ethic and character (I work ca 25 hours a week at nights).
My free time is from 9 am to 3 pm when my own kids are at school. I do see a lot of after school part time jobs which makes sense of course. There are not too many during the day. I was hoping that some SAHMs or SAHDs need a break from time to time.
I do drive, but was hoping this day time job is more about taking the kids outside. I'd bring them back when it's their nappy time.

we paid more per hour as we went from full-time to part-time to housekeeping.
